The Priory buildings (lower right), Spitzkop and Viervoet mountains. Modderpoortspruit ('spruit = 'stream') is in the pass that goes between the two mountains. The entrance to the pass is obscured by the tall eucalyptus trees.

After the SSA arrived in 1869, buildings began to be erected, changing the landscape. Here is an eary photo of Platberg with only one building in front of it. This scene would now include the priory buildings. An unidentified man sits on a rock.
